AFC Cup: Terengganu defeats Song Lam

Terengganu edged club side Song Lam Nghe An 1-0 in the opening match of Group F in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup tournament in Vietnam on Tuesday (6/3/12).

Terengganu, the 2011 Malaysian FA Cup champions , had to wait till the second half to notch the victory when Abdul Manaf Mamat’s 51st minute goal brought heartaches for Vietnam’s Super League winner.

Besides Terengganu and Song Lam, the other teams in the group are Hong Kong club Kitchee FC and Tampines Rovers of Singapore.

The Philippines national team got one of their better results in recent months when they held AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 champions Malaysia to a 1-1 draw in a friendly that was played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, Wednesday (29/2/12)..

Following two heavy losses in a tour of the Middle East recently, the game against the Malaysians was important in that it was the Philippines final tune up match before their participation in the AFC Challenge Cup.

"Out-Do-Yourself" Award

The National Under-23 football team received the “Out-Do-Yourself” Award at the annual Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM)-100PLUS-KBS 2011 Awards ceremony in Petaling Jaya Sunday (26/2/12).

The team won the award based on their achievement in winning the gold medal at the Jakarta SEA Games.

Youth and Sports Minister Dato Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek was the guest of honour at the awards ceremony.

SAM-100PLUS Award

PETALING JAYA (FEB 26, 2012): National shooter Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi was named the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM)-100PLUS “Athlete Of The Year 2011” at a glittering awards ceremony held at a leading hotel here today.

The 29-year-old, who won two gold medals at the Indonesian SEA Games last year – women’s 50m rifle three-position and 10m air rifle events – sparked the gold rush for the nation in Jakarta and Palembang. Malaysia ended the games with a record breaking 59 gold medals.

Pasukan Olimpik Malaysia tewas 0-4 kepada Jepun pada perlawanan kelima saingan Kumpulan C Kelayakkan Olimpik 2012 yang berlangsung di Stadium Nasional, Bukit Jalil, Rabu (22/02/12).

Jepun menyerang dari awal permainan lagi dan berjaya memperolehi gol pertama melalui jaringan Sakai Hiroki pada minit ke-35.

Red Giants menurunkan Balaban setelah memperoleh sijil perpindahan antarabangsa (ITC) pada tengah hari Isnin dan penyerang itu berjaya menunjukkan impak kepada jentera serangan Selangor.

The draw for the qualifying stage of the inaugural AFC U-22 Asian Cup took place at AFC House on Tuesday (14/02/12) with 41 continental countries being drawn in seven groups.

All the qualifying matches will be organized from June 23rd to July 3rd 2012 and the finals will be played in 2013 while the next edition of the biennial competition (2015) will serve as qualifiers for the 2016 Olympics.

Addressing the media during the opening of the draw, AFC Executive Director of Competitions Windsor John Paul said:

THREE TEAMS UNDER INVERTIGATION

 

Three Malaysian League teams are under investigation by the Malaysian
Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in relation to match fixing this
season, said the Chairman of the Vetting,
Monitoring and Transparency Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat announced yesterday (13/02/12).

He told reporters that said FAM, MACC and the police (PDRM) would
carry out a detailed investigation on the matter and would propose to
the Disciplinary Board to take action against the players and
officials of the three teams.
