Malaysian Leagues to pay homage to inspirational figures

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed that the Malaysia Super League (MSL) and Malaysia Premier League (MPL) teams are to observe a minute’s silence before Friday and Saturday’s fixtures to honour the passing of former Kelantan Menteri Besar, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and renowned sports presenter, Dato’ Haji Hasbullah Awang.

Nik Aziz passed away at the age of 84 at 9.45pm at his home in Pulau Melaka on Thursday. He was an influential trailblazer revered for his contribution towards narrowing the gaps between race and religion among Malaysians.

Hasbullah, 63, passed away at 12.20pm on Thursday at Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) due to heart-related complications. The destitute news sent shockwaves throughout the Malaysian footballing community with his voice proverbial to the national football team history.

He was a tantamount figure with national broadcasting station, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) since the 1980s before joining Astro Arena in January 2014 as a sports commentator.
