Eximbank Cup

Malaysia opened its campaign in the Eximbank Cup quadrangular in Ho Chi Minh City with a 2-1 defeat to hosts Vietnam at Thong Nhat Stadium.

Malaysia's only goal was contributed by attacker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha (picture), who narrowed the deficit a minute before the break after Vietnam had carved out a 2-0 lead. Earlier Iran and Singapore drew 1-1.

K. Rajagobal's lads will take on the Iranian Olympic team on Thursday, before ending their campaign against Singapore on Saturday.

AFF Suzuki Cup

MALAYSIA has been drawn against two heavyweights – hosts Indonesia and former winners Thailand – in Group A of the AFF Suzuki Cup co-hosted by Indonesia and Vietnam in December.

Completing the Group is the winner of the qualifier.

Defending champions Vietnam will host Group B comprising Singapore, Myanmar and runners-up of the qualifier.

The draw was conducted in Hanoi today.
