U-19: Our boys fail to qualify

SURABAYA– Hosts Indonesia advanced to the semi-finals of the AFF Under-19 Championship despite sharing points with Malaysia in their last group stage match here at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium, Wednesday night (18 Sept).

For their efforts, the Indonesian Under-19 team, also known as Garuda Jaya, will face rivals Timor Leste in what is expected to be a thrilling semi-final clash. The other semi-final encounter will be a battle between Vietnam and Laos.

The inaugural course is designed to up lift the standard of fitness training programs of Member Associations of ASEAN and East Asia.

Malaysia blast 5 past Brunei

SURABAYA  – Malaysia blasted five goal past Brunei in their penultimate Group B match Monday (16 Sept) to place themselves in a stronger position to advance to the semi-finals of the AFF Under-19 Championship.

Malaysia will only be sure of a place in the semi-finals after their last match against hosts Indonesia on Wednesday.

Two Group B matches were held simultaneously on Monday. While Malaysia battled Brunei at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium, Vietnam defeated Myanmar 3-1 over at the Petrokimia Gresik Stadium.

AFF Women’s: Third defeat for Malaysia

YANGON– Australia Under-19 booked their place in the semi-finals of the AFF Aya Bank Women’s Championship when they edged seasoned campaigner Thailand 3-2 in a crucial Group A tie Friday at the Youth Training Centre.

The win was Australia’s third after scoring a 1-0 win over Malaysia in their first group tie and then a 5-1 beating of Jordan in their second match two days ago.

Malaysia lost 1-0 to Jordan and to Australia and Vietnam with the same margin.

U-19: Malaysia stay in contention

SURABAYA– Malaysia battled their way into contention for a spot in the AFF Under-19 Championship semifinals with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Thailand at the Petrokimia Gresik Stadium here, Saturday (14 Sept).

Muhammad Arif Mohamed Anwar sent shockwaves through the opponents’ bench with a 14th minute strike. Soon after the break, Piyapong Homkhajon scrambled home the equaliser, however, Muhammad Alif Haikal restored the lead in the 74th minute for Malaysia.

Malaysia Deserving Champions

Malaysia won the 41st edition of the Merdeka Tournament by defeating Myanmar 2-0 at the Darulmakmur Stadium in Kuantan, Saturday (14 Sept).

The scoreline was not a reflection of Malaysia’s dominance as they created many chances throughout the match but could not finish.

The win, however, was more satisfying given that the nation celebrates Malaysia Day on Monday. And the fans created a terrific atmosphere, refusing to budge from their seats despite the heavens opening up at halftime.
