Winning start for Arsenal

ARSENAL kicked off their pre-season Asia Tour in style with a 4-0 victory over Malaysia at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil Wednesday night (13/7/11).

However, national chief coach Datuk K. Rajagobal and his players should not be too disappointed with the score because the players fought for every ball even though they were up against one of the top clubs in Europe.

Aaron Ramsey gave Arsenal a flying start from the penalty spot in the 5th minute and Theo Walcott added the second in the 37th to put the Gunners in a comfortable position before half time.

A brace from striker Solahudin Mahmud gave SMK Bukit Nenas of Terengganu a well-deserved 2-0 win over defending champions SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah in the first leg, semi-finals of the Under-14 Minister of Education League Cup (MELC) 2011, Saturday (9/7/11).

Tough but good draw

The battle ground for the national Olympic squad will now be in the Middle East and Japan.

After overcoming Pakistan and Lebanon in the first two round, chief coach Ong Kim Swee’s squad will now prepare to battle with Japan, Bahrain and Syria in the third round group matches, beginning September 21.

In the third round draw at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) House in Kuala Lumpur, Thursday (7/7/11), Malaysia was drawn into Group C together with Japan, Bahrain and Syria.

The first match will be against Japan in Tokyo on September 21.

Kelantan wins first Super League title

Malaysia Cup Champions, Kelantan grabbed their first Super League title after edging Sabah 2-1 at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Wednesday night (6/7/11).

National striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha scored both the goals to put Kelantan firmly on top of the 2011 Super League table with 56 points, three ahead of runners-up Terengganu four in front of reigning champions, Selangor.

Selangor were deposed as champions after a 0-0 draw with Perak while Terengganu defeated Felda United 6-2, with Abdul Hadi Yahya scoring four goals to become the league top scorer with 20 goals.

Malaysia qualifies for second round

The national football team advanced to the second round of the 2014 World Cup despite losing 2-3 to Chinese Taipei in the return leg of the Asian Zone Qualifier in Taipei, Sunday (3/7/11).

Malaysia won the first leg in Kuala Lumpur 2-1 on Wednesday (29/6/11) and after the return leg the aggregate was 4-4 but Malaysia qualified on away-goal rule.

The next opponent for the Malayan Tigers will be Singapore, playing July 23 in the city-state and the return match at National Stadium on July 29. Singapore received a bye in the first round.
